Harper Lee (1926-2016)

”When he was nearly thirteen, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow. When it healed, and Jem’s fears of never being able to play football were assuaged, he was seldom self-conscious about his injury. His left arm was somewhat shorter than his right; when he stood or walked, the back of his hand was at right angles to his body, his thumb parallel to his thigh.”

  1. It makes me sad how many authors have passed away recently. Both, Harper Lee & Umberto Eco yesterday and Brink, Doctorow, Pratchett, Michael Blake… last year. Well they’ll live forever through their stories.

You have had a hiatus with your blog, how are you doing?

    1. When we learned that Harper Lee died, my friend and I were talking about great authors who’re still alive, like Margaret Atwood,Alice Munro,Milan Kundera and Umberto Eco.
And today, still in bed, I grabbed my phone and lazily went on Facebook. I didn’t expect to learn about Eco’s death. I thought it was some joke, because Harper Lee just died! It’s really sad, I think….

Oh, yes. I have been on a hiatus. I wanted to come back, but then, what would I write? My reading has slackened dramatically over the past months. This year I have to cook, attend lectures, do the dishes and apply for placements.

Little by little I am getting a bit put off by the real world, where people are fake and all they try to do is seek the approval of others by posting edited selfies on instagram. So definitely, I will come back for sure. In fact, I am reading a book called ”Stiff” by Mary Roach, and once I’m done with this book I will come back. I also hope I will be done with my placement applications by the end of March….

And you, how have you been?

  2. I was shocked when I started seeing pictures where faces of Lee and Eco where lined up and there were some quotes. Sometimes I feel like I would do myself a great favor if I just stopped checking news and social media.

Well in my opinion these little quotes (memorial in this case) are already pretty wonderful 🙂 Because many bloggers just quit and I never know what happened to them. For me blogging is not about writing (because my writing has always been horrible :D) but it’s a way to connect with bookish people, have conversations.

What do you mean by placement?

I’ve been depressed ever since I was 15 or so and real world we live in has a lot to do with it. Though yes okay I also get the whole likes on your selfies on instagram matter. Stiff sound interesting. I’ve been trying to read more nonfiction lately but it’s hard.

I’ve been good haha. Close(r) to getting my degree. Hopefully I’ll graduate by summer. Got interesting project about one event I could organize. Read my first Malcom Gladwell book a while ago. He writes very well, something I’d recommend for everyone to read 🙂

Tell me what you think! :)
